A Prehistory of the Ethereum Protocol

Before the blockchain has launched, the protocol went through a number of significant evolutions and design decisions. The purpose of this article will be to go through the various evolutions of the protocol from start to launch. The history of applications and businesses in the Ethereum ecosystem, as well as the history of Casper and sharding research, is deliberately out of scope.
