OpenAI has recently launched a new feature called Canvas for ChatGPT, designed to enhance users’ interactions with AI for writing and coding projects. This new interface aims to provide a more collaborative and interactive experience, moving beyond the traditional chat format. In this article, I’ll cover the top features of ChatGPT Canvas and show how to use it.

What is Canvas?

Canvas is an innovative interface that allows users to work on writing and coding tasks in a separate window alongside the main ChatGPT chat window. It provides a workspace where users can generate, edit, and refine their content more efficiently. This feature is currently available in beta for ChatGPT Plus and Teams users, with plans to extend access to all users once it exits beta. It’s almost the same as the Claude Artifacts, but in Canvas, you don’t have the ability to run the code.

Key Features of Canvas

Enhanced Collaboration

Canvas opens a separate window for your projects, allowing you to collaborate with ChatGPT more effectively. You can highlight specific sections of text or code to receive targeted edits or suggestions from the AI.

Writing

Canvas offers several features to improve your content:

You can do all of this with just a click on the icon. So easy :)

Coding Assistance

Other cool features will be helpful for programmers.

How to Use ChatGPT Canvas

To start using Canvas, select “GPT-4o with canvas” from the model selector on the ChatGPT dashboard. The interface will automatically open when ChatGPT detects that a separate workspace could be beneficial, such as for more extended outputs or complex coding tasks.

Users can also manually trigger Canvas by including “use canvas” in their prompts.
