TL;DR —
Most engineers in their professional life will have to deal with data integrations. But they don’t aspire for data integration to become a commodity. Airbyte aims to open-source all data integration pipelines with a MIT license. It took 6 years for Fivetran to reach 150 connectors that they must maintain every day. The only way to cover the long tail of connectors is a community of community of maintainers. The vision would be that building new integrations for the larger good connectors through an MIT license is trivial.
