In this interview, we caught up with Lim How Wei to discuss EquipmentStack, a newly launched, niche content platform focused on detailed athlete equipment specifications. We explore their mission to help enthusiasts find exactly what the pros use, diving into the labor-intensive data gathering that earned them their recent Proof of Usefulness score.
What does EquipmentStack do? And why is now the time for it to exist?
EquipmentStack is your definitive source for the gear that the top athletes use. Our mission is to be the most accurate, up-to-date reference for the equipment used by athletes across a wide range of sports — from badminton and sport climbing to jiu-jitsu, and many more. Now’s a good time for EquipmentStack to exist because fans and aspiring athletes are increasingly seeking direct, reliable information about professional gear setups without having to sift through endless forums and outdated social media posts.
Who does your EquipmentStack serve? What’s exciting about your users and customers?
EquipmentStack is for sport enthusiasts looking to find the equipment that their favorite athlete uses.
Our research process draws from four primary sources including official athlete social media pages, interviews on YouTube and other platforms, official matches and competitions, and official brand sponsorship pages.
This ensures that each athlete's equipment setup page is accurate.
What technologies were used in the making of EquipmentStack? And why did you choose ones most essential to your tech stack?
To build and manage our extensive content repository, we utilized WordPress as our foundational technology. Choosing WordPress allowed us to rapidly deploy a custom, SEO-friendly site that is perfectly suited for managing a highly structured database of gear and athletes without unnecessary technical overhead.
What is the traction to date for EquipmentStack?
As a newly launched platform, current traction is still in its early stages, but we have an ambitious roadmap ahead. Our projection for EquipmentStack.com is to reach 100,000 monthly readers by late 2027 through comprehensive equipment guides and targeted search visibility.
EquipmentStack earned a 35 proof of usefulness score (https://proofofusefulness.com/reports/equipmentstack)
What excites you about this EquipmentStack's potential usefulness?
I believe that access to accurate equipment information from the top athletes around the world shouldn’t require hours of digging through forums and social media. That’s why I've built a centralized, sport-by-sport database that puts the right gear information at people's fingertips, sourced directly from the athletes themselves.
