If you’re a regular HackerNoon visitor, you might have noticed things look a little different. That’s all thanks to our ✨design revamp✨ — welcome a smoother experience, less clutter, and an even cooler retro vibe.
What's new?
The biggest changes are on the homepage. We cut down the noise, simplified the navigation, and focused on the features that bring the most value to you, our reader, every day. Let’s dive in:
On the Homepage, You’ll Find:
- Daily Top Stories: Five featured stories with title, author, publish date, estimated reading time, and main tag.
- Tech Categories Navigation: Browse all 22 categories from the horizontal nav bar under Top Stories. Use the arrows to scroll through them all.
- Latest Stories Published: Right after the Top Stories’ Spotlight, stay in the loop with our latest stories published.
- Trending Stories: Check out the top 20 stories currently trending on HackerNoon. For deeper dives, visit our Tech Beat page.
- Trending Companies: See which 20 companies are gaining (or losing) attention. Track the public sentiment, stock movement, and more with one click.
- Stories by Category: Browse the three most recent stories in each tech category — no need to jump from page to page to find content that fits your interests.
- Poll of the Week: Still here, still needs your vote. The new layout shows the question on the left and the voting options on the right. Once you vote, you’ll see which option the HackerNoon community is favoring.
- Learn About HackerNoon: A short section introduces what HackerNoon offers for Readers, Writers, and Brands. Use the buttons to go directly to the pages that best match your needs.
- Published Recently: Take a scroll through the latest stories published On This Day.

Use the hamburger menu (☰) in the top-right corner to access the full navigation, including:
- Profile Settings: Check your profile and stats, make edits, visit your reader and writer profiles, tweak your email subscriptions, and more.

Search Function (powered by Algolia)
Click the search icon to immediately see top 10 trending stories, categories, and topics. Once you start typing, results filter by stories, topics, people, and companies.
Tech Category Pages & Tags
Each tech category page now includes:
- The four latest stories
- A podcast section (listen instead of reading!)
- Top 10 writers in that category (with avatars, rankings, and story counts)
- Infinite scroll for category-specific stories
- Popular related tags: if you click on one of the suggested topics, you'll be directed to their main tag page and will be able to see all stories published under that tag. But if instead you click on View All Tech Category Tags, you'll land on a page listing all tags ever linked to that tech category. And the best part is that you can browse each tech category's tags one by one, by selecting it at the top of the page.
New Signup Experience and Simpler Profile Settings Management
Everything starts here 👇
- Pick how you want to sign up – Email, Gmail, GitHub, X (formerly Twitter), or LinkedIn (yes, that one’s new!).
- Choose your handle – This is your public identity on HackerNoon.
- Complete your profile – Once your handle is approved, you’ll be taken to your profile settings so you can customize it to reflect you.
👤 New Profile Pages
We’ve redesigned profile settings pages to help you better represent yourself. Your info and CTAs are pinned to the left, and tabs at the top let you toggle between your bio, stories, saved quotes, comments, and more.
Haven't filled it out yet? Click “Edit” or go to “Settings” to update your bio, work history, location, and interests. All updates happen in real-time.
Want to manage your emails too? Go to the “Emails” tab and subscribe (or unsubscribe 🙁) with one click.
🗳 New Poll Design
Our revamped polls page is cleaner and info-rich. Each poll now includes the question, voting breakdown, and all user comments on the right side. You can even download the poll data!
💬 Commenting with Markdown
Now you can format your comments on stories and polls using markdown — perfect for emphasis, links, and cleaner replies.
Style HackerNoon to Your taste
We’ve upgraded our theme picker for better customization — lighter, faster, and cleaner. Change themes via the hamburger menu > last icon on the right.

A New Writing Experience 🚀
Clicking “Start Writing” now gives you three choices:
- Chowa: Collaborative Text Editor – Work with other authors to create your next masterpiece.
- Blank Draft with Editor 3.0 – Prefer to write solo? Use HackerNoon’s classic editor (you know the one).
- Import Story – Paste a URL from anywhere on the web and watch your content instantly load into Editor 3.0. You can then format or update it to fit your publishing goals.
