From Dorm Room to Global Success

MacPaw's story began in 2008 when 21-year-old Oleksandr Kosovan, an engineering student at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, created the first version of CleanMyMac in his dorm room. What started as a simple utility to declutter and optimize Mac devices has since grown into a comprehensive software ecosystem trusted by millions.

Today, MacPaw serves over 30 million users worldwide, with an impressive statistic that speaks volumes: one in every five Mac users has at least one MacPaw app installed. The company has grown from that single student project to a team of nearly 500 professionals spread across offices in Kyiv, Ukraine, and Boston, USA.

Resilience Through Crisis

MacPaw's journey has been marked by extraordinary resilience. Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine following Russia's 2022 invasion, the company has maintained operations with over 70% of team members remaining in Ukraine. As CEO Oleksandr Kosovan stated:

"In times of crisis and external chaos, I believe businesses exist largely for their people, providing something solid to depend on. Our true resilience is shown not only through fighting in the war, but the ability to keep business operating and fulfilling promises to customers and partners."

MacPaw shares not just technical insights on HackerNoon, but also perspectives on maintaining innovation under extraordinary circumstances.

MacPaw has partnered with HackerNoon through our Business Blogging Program, sharing deep technical insights and cybersecurity research with the tech community.

Their latest blog post, Your Employees Want Macs, Your IT Team Needs Them, argues that overreliance on Windows exposes IT systems to massive risk. Macs, with stronger security, longer lifespan, and seamless ecosystem integration, offer lower total ownership costs and higher employee satisfaction. The message to IT leaders: adopting Macs isn’t a luxury—it’s a strategic upgrade.
