From Oswap.io to the City

Getting started in Obyte City starts with preparing your accounts and wallet. You'll need to connect your Discord and/or Telegram account to the city through an Obyte wallet chatbot. You can find the Bot Store on the Chat menu in the wallet, click on the Discord or Telegram attestation bots, and then simply follow their instructions. The process barely takes a few minutes.

These attested accounts are the way you will be buying plots and claiming rewards down the line, so make sure this connection is established. After that's set, you'll need CITY tokens to purchase your first plot. Plots are only sold for CITY, with each plot being 1,000 CITY tokens. The price right now is about 0.0028 GBYTE per CITY token. Each plot, adding a burned fee (37.5%) would cost approximately $11.4. CITY is easy to obtain on the Oswap.io decentralized exchange, so you can begin there.

When you buy a plot, it's randomly given coordinates in the City's massive grid. If your plot happens to be near another vacant one, you and your new neighbor win some nice prizes: a house on each neighboring plot and two extra empty plots, each worth 1,000 CITY. To claim your prizes, you'll reach out to your neighbor on Discord or Telegram, making your purchase a cool opportunity to connect with someone new.

If you don't find a neighbor immediately, no worries: your plot's still in the City, still worth 1,000 CITY tokens, and may give you extra rewards in the future when someone moves in next door. And if you don't feel like waiting, you can swap out your plot and receive your tokens back, minus the burned fee.

Already have a house in Obyte City?

So, when your plot turns into a house, that's when things get really fun! Your house is sort of your forever home in the City. It will have a street name inspired by a famous cypherpunk, and it allows you to create a unique shortcode (something like @myname) which will end up being a really easy wallet “address” to send and receive coins. Only owners of houses can capture these shortcodes, and they can trade them with other citizens for a real market value.

Besides, houses are more than just a marker on the map. You can customize yours with your social profiles, websites, company pages, or any kind of text and links you want to share. Think of it as your digital calling card in the City. For businesses or projects, this opens the door to a form of light advertising. Your presence is permanent, meaning it’s always there for others to find.

Get more friends and more rewards

Obyte City is not all about collecting cold plots; it flourishes on community development. That's where the referral scheme kicks in. If you share your plot or house link with friends and they decide to buy through it, you get a referral boost. This increases your chances of being their neighbor, which can unlock more rewards for both of you. On average, you'll receive around 10% of what your referrals purchase (excluding fees), and it all adds up over time.

Additionally, the benefits don't end with the initial neighbor match or the referral program. There are secondary rewards that aim to make the connection last longer. These bonuses begin 60 days after becoming neighbors and continue over the course of time, provided that you both claim them together through Discord or Telegram.
